FilingOak · LLC Formation by State
Washington DC LLC Formation Service
A Washington DC LLC is inexpensive to create and expensive to keep on the corporate-report calendar. The current initial organization fee is $99, so the standard FilingOak order is $594.
The first Two-Year Report costs $300 and is due April 1 of the calendar year immediately after formation, even if the LLC was formed late in the previous year. A $100 late fee applies after the deadline.

The first $300 report can arrive surprisingly soon
A DC LLC formed in January 2026 and one formed in December 2026 both reach the first Two-Year Report deadline on April 1, 2027. The $300 recurring filing is therefore larger than the $99 formation charge and can arrive only a few months after a late-year formation.
DC asks for direct ownership and control information
The current domestic LLC form requires names and residence/business addresses for people with more than 10% direct or indirect governance or distributional interest, and can also capture people at or below that threshold who control financial, operational or day-to-day decisions. That is a real disclosure rule, not something Public Record Address Privacy can erase.
Formation and business licensing are separate
Creating the LLC with the Corporations Division does not determine whether the business also needs a Basic Business License or another activity-specific license. Licensing depends on what the business actually does in the District and carries its own fees and requirements.
What Washington DC requires from the formation filing
Washington DC forms a domestic LLC through the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection. The filing asks for the principal office, registered agent, organizer and interest/control information required by the current form. FilingOak needs those real facts before preparing the filing; it cannot hide a person who meets the District's disclosure rule.
What becomes part of the Washington DC record
DC's ownership/control disclosures are unusually direct. FilingOak can use Public Record Address Privacy only for eligible address fields, and it does not reduce a required beneficial-interest or control disclosure to “anonymous LLC” marketing.
The $300 Two-Year Report is the recurring number to remember
The first report is due April 1 in the calendar year after formation; later reports follow the two-year cycle. The current fee is $300 and the late fee is $100.
The District's business-filing environment moved to the newer BOSS system in 2026. Portal names can change, but the reporting obligation remains the thing the company has to preserve.

DIY is reasonable if the early $300 report and ownership disclosures are clear
DC provides a direct filing route. A founder who understands the ownership/control disclosure, has a registered agent and is comfortable with the $300 biennial report can self-file.
FilingOak is more useful when the formation and broader package are worth handing off. It cannot answer whether a particular activity needs a DC business license or advise how ownership should be structured to change disclosure.
